Welcome to this month's Wellness Focus – Healthy Bodies

This month, we will highlight the importance of physical fitness for both the workforce and staff. We'll also look at tips for incorporating exercise into a busy work schedule and building strength and endurance specific to the demands of construction work.

Below, we have some great resources from Healthline, The Department of Health and Aged Care, The BetterHealth Channel, Exercise Right and more. Each resource has been carefully reviewed and handpicked by the Health & Safety team at WHT-S.

Why is Fitness important?

If you're part of the workforce, you may wonder what actions you could take to ensure that you can keep up with the demands of a physically challenging role. Regular exercise and fitness training can help build and maintain the strength needed to lift heavy objects, perform repetitive tasks, and maintain the stamina that is needed to continue working for extended periods of time.

Injury prevention is another reason why it is crucial for construction workers to maintain a certain level of physical fitness. Being physically fit can help prevent injuries by improving balance, agility, and coordination. It also helps in maintaining proper body mechanics, reducing the risk of strains, sprains, and other musculoskeletal injuries.

For our office-based staff, spending long hours sitting at a desk, can lead to poor posture and musculoskeletal issues. Regular exercise, particularly exercises that promote strength and flexibility, can help improve posture, reduce the risk of back and neck pain, and prevent musculoskeletal imbalances.
Additionally, engaging in regular exercise can help lower the risk of conditions such as obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, all of which are associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Regular physical activity can also boost the immune system, reducing the likelihood of getting sick.
