This Month's Wellness Focus
March 2024 Wellness Focus

Welcome to this month's Wellness Focus – Mental Health #GOALS!

As we are asked to think about the goals we would like to set for ourselves and our future career aspirations, it is important to keep our mental health in mind. Below, we have some great resources from the Black Dog Institute and Headspace. We also have some information about Positive Psychology in the workplace. The best part is that all of these resources have been tried and tested by the Health & Safety team at WHT-S.

What is Positive Psychology?

Positive Psychology is about performing positive actions, practicing positive ways of thinking and creating positive habits to maintain good mental health while helping to prevent mental health decline or mental illness in response to stress. It aims to improve on positive mental habits and actions, which help to prevent mental illness before it might occur.

How does it help?
Positive psychology in the workplace has been shown to:

  • Reduce the risk of mental illness occurring in people.
  • Create a happier workforce who feel more fulfilled at work.
  • Encourage mindsets that allow for our people to better bounce back from distress.

Black Dog's Mental Health Self-Assessment

Created by leading clinicians and based on research, the Black Dog Institute has developed this free mental health assessment tool that suitable for anyone over the age of 18 to use.

This can be used as a helpful tool to gain a better understanding of your own mental health. The self-assessment can take as little as 5 minutes out of your day to complete. At the end of the self-assessment, each person will receive a personalised report with suggested support services and free or low-cost resources for you to access if you choose to. Remember that choosing to do the self-assessment does not mean that you have to use any of the support services offered.

Please note that this is an external resource that is not linked to the project in any way. Your responses are completely anonymous. If you do choose to provide your personal details to the Black Dog Institute, the project will not be notified.

Click here to start the self-assessment.

Ya'll got any Netflix?

While the project doesn't have its own Netflix account, you might! "The Headspace Guide to Meditation" explores the essentials of meditation and its role in helping us stay focused and engaged in everyday life. Each episode of the Netflix series highlights a specific advantage, ranging from stress reduction to creating an attitude of thankfulness. Episodes start by introducing the concept and methods, and then they wrap up with a directed meditation session. Andy Puddicombe, co-founder of Headspace, guides viewers through the journey, providing narration for the eight episodes, each lasting around 20 minutes. Coupled with his narration are engaging animations and calming music. If you're curious about meditation, this could be a great place to start!

Support your teammates as they lace up for the Sydney Half Marathon!

15 Rozelle Interchange team members are lacing up to represent the project in the upcoming 2024 HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon. The team will be fundraising for the Projects charity of choice, The Harding Miller Education Foundation.

What is our team name? Well, I'm glad you asked! Ladies and Gentlemen...I present to you...the very fit, the very fast...CUT. BOLT. RUN!

Cut. Bolt. Run! will start their journey on Macquarie St next to the luscious Royal Botanic Gardens in the CBD. Then, they will swiftly dash along the Cahill Expressway and make their way down Hickson Rd. Next is a quick trot around Pyrmont, before our champions charge towards Darling Harbour and up King Street Wharf, towards the Barangaroo Reserve. From there, our fearless friends shall scoot back past Millers Point on the expressway, and zip across to Art Gallery Rd. After hightailing it up to Mrs Macquaries Chair, our beautiful besties shall scuttle along to St. Mary's Cathedral, before making a triumphant leap across the finish line at Prince Albert Rd.
